World premiere on VG Nett Friday:
Morten Harket: - Sure, I feel pressure to achieve good results
VGTV met the a-ha star in studio.

Morten Harket (48) tells about his new song – which definitely is not new – and discloses he does not yet know what to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize concert.

This Friday at 08:00 you will get the world premiere of Morten Harkets new solo song ‘Movies’ on VG Nett – one hour before the song is played on the radio stations.

25 years in the business had not made the a-ha front figure Morten Harket immune towards pressure to achieve good results. In an exclusive interview with VGTV – at the record studio Lydlab in Oslo before the solo release – Morten reveals he DOES have nerves before the album release.

- Sure I feel the pressure to achieve good results. It is always there. Always. Absolutely. And it is important. But the pressure comes more from the inside than the outside, the 48 year-old explains.

Morten stresses it is not worth being controlled by the expectations from the surroundings.

- If having to think about what people on the outside probably will like, you are distancing yourself from what light you. So, it is just to cut that out, Morten laughs.

OLD SONG GOT NEW TITLE

The album ‘Letter From Egypt’ will be released early next year. The song ‘Movies’, as the audience will hear on Friday, is not written by Morten himself. On the other hand, being an old song from the band ‘Locomotives’, who Morten met before he released his previous solo album ‘Wild Seed’ – which came out in 1995.

Different from most of the material on the new album, I have not sucked this album from my own breast. That way, it is maybe a little odd opening with exactly that, Morten explains to VG Nett.

- The song was originally named ‘My Woman’, I think, and it hit me especially. I got an own kick from it. It was after having heard that I went home and wrote ‘Christmas Card’, Morten tells and is referring to the song on ‘Wild Seed’.

- It was in a way the song to Locomotives that kicked me to start writing ‘Christmas Card’. I had a reckless feeling and was thinking ‘I want MY song’, Morten tells.

NEEDED TO DO IT

When Morten started focusing on the solo album last hear, he still had the Locomotives song in mind.

- I need to do it, Morten explains, who does not know why it took so long from the previous solo album to the one just around the corner.

- Yes, you may wonder? I don’t know. There are many reasons. The business started tearing apart and I backed out on the international contract. I decided not to take part in anything for a while. But 2-3 years ago the record companies started thinking new. And THEN I was ready. But then is started happening things with a-ha, Morten tells.

UNEXPECTED REUNION.

What happened was that the organizers of the Nobel concert in 1998 managed to talk the super group to reunite.

- Back then I was certain there would not be any a-ha reunion. We weren’t there, any of us. But we performed at the Nobel concert and got a totally unexpected reaction from the audience, Morten explains..

ON THE NOBEL STAGE ALONE

Now, he is ready for the Nobel stage again – this time alone. But what to perform in front of potentially 100 million TV viewers world over, he does not know yet.

- It is a secret. Also to me. So, it is exciting, Morten giggles.

- But it will be something from the new repertoire, he adds.
The news about Morten performing, is so fresh the Nobel academy, in this writing moment, has not yet updated their websites with the Norwegian attraction.
Morten is not concerned about the big number of TV viewers.

- I rather think of the solely sofa with the little clique sitting in front of the TV. When it comes to TV, I conduct myself to individuals or a little group. I have found out that is the healthiest way, the 48 year old tells.

NOT SO DIFFERENT

- What separates solo-Morten of today from solo-Morten 12 years ago?

- I may be clearer myself. Apart from that, I am not very different. The character in the music is recognizable. But, the character is rather different from the character to a-ha. My music comes from somewhere else. I kind of stand out from another body. That is nothing I try. That is just how it is, Morten says.

- But, will there be more a-ha?

- Yes, we shall see… Right now I am focusing on my own, Morten answers.

A-HA POTENTIAL

He explains that a-ha still has a way to go.

- The actual potential is so exciting we are not quite finished with that, he explains.

A LOT OF TIME WITH THE CHILDREN

On the questions on how he manages to get time for all, considered he is a father of four, Morten answers:

- That is my life. At times a little tighter than I want. But I spend as much time as possible with my kids. Many have got it worse than I have.

JEANS FULL OF HOLES

Morten does still have holes in his jeans.

- Yes, it is hard work! Morten laughs, whom made the jeans into fashion world over with a-ha’s breakthrough in 1983.

- But, when VG Nett asks how important it is with image, his manager interrupts and says the interview is over.

- Yes, when it comes to clothes and style and stuff, we can take that in another interview. In 2000 years, Morten laughs.

- Dig up the remnants after me and discuss jeans in the future, the pop hero says, who does not want to reveal how he keeps himself so fit.

- That I am keeping myself fit, is YOUR words, it sounds humbly from the pop-icon who Friday will perform on ‘Idol’ on TV2. There he will perform ‘Movies’. This week Morten is giving all the participants in ‘Idol’ private song lessons ahead of what is going to be an own a-ha tribute.

Listen to the world premiere on ‘Movies’ on VG Nett Friday 08:00.
